Our Beliefs

We believe in the Holy Trinity. As a part of the Christian church on earth, we believe in one God who comes to us in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as expressed in the three ecumenical creeds: The Apostles’, The Nicene Creed and The Athanasian Creed.(Matthew 28:19)

We believe in Jesus Christ. God has revealed himself in his Son, Jesus Christ, who is truly human and truly God. (John 14:9)

We believe in salvation through Christ. Humankind’s greatest needs are answered in Jesus Christ. He has responded to our suffering and death by rising from the grave and promising us the resurrection of our bodies. The guilt we feel over our sinful impulses and many wrongs is met by his atoning sacrifice on the cross. His gift of peace with God and each other is the answer to the need for true community on an international level right down to our marriages and families. (John 11:25; Luke 23:34; Isaiah 9:6)

We believe in justification by faith. Human beings are powerless to save themselves through their own efforts to live a decent life or to living according to God’s standards but our heavenly Father accepts us for Christ’s sake as an act of grace and unmerited favour. (Romans 3:21-24)

We believe in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, working through the message of the gospel, convicts people of their need of God’s saving love, brings them to repentance and creates a true faith in Jesus Christ. (John 14:26)

We believe in Holy Baptism. Baptism brings to the person, infant and adult, all the blessings Christ has won for us through his sinless life, his atoning death, his resurrection from the grave and his ascension to glory so that we have a brand new life. (Acts 2:38,39)

We believe in the presence of God in his church. The church and each believer in Christ is the temple of the Holy Spirit. When Christians gather together in worship, they have the promise that Christ continues to come amongst them and is truly present during the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. (Corinthians 11:23-26)

We believe in God’s plan for our lives. God’s purpose for our lives is to grow to be more like Christ, to proclaim the gospel to all people and to look forward to his return at the last day. (Philippians 2:14-16).

We believe in the Holy Scriptures. The Bible is the inspired word of God written by men who were moved by the Spirit to record God’s might acts in history to restore humanity through Jesus Christ. (John 5:39)

We accept the Lutheran Confessions. These statements of faith, written during a time of persecution and heresy, are a faithful testimony to the Holy Scriptures, affirming Christ alone, grace alone, faith alone and Scripture alone.

We believe in the Day of Judgement. Christ will come and raise all the dead and judge the secrets of everyone. To those who have loved evil and rejected the truth will be damned eternally but those who have sought a better humanity and found it in Christ, will be invited into his everlasting kingdom.
